The Future of Global Supply Chains: GSMI 5.0 Standalone Report
GBBC’s Global Standard Mapping Initiative (GSMI) 5.0 published a standalone report written by the Supply Chain Working Group, which falls under the research arm of BITA.
The report builds on the foundational topics introduced for GSMI 4.0 below, discussing the current landscape of global supply chain standards, particularly the importance of harmonized and open-source standards as global commerce goes digital. There is still a need for further harmonization and a common language for shared data elements, which are crucial to enable the level of interoperability across systems that will provide a truly global view to supply chain traceability. The report includes a reference architecture model that can shape future developments. Much of this also runs on digital identity, tokenization, and digital twins, enabled by blockchain technology, and scale comes through network effects. A call to action is proposed, toward greater alignment across international standards bodies and engagement across stakeholders.
