GSMI 7.0 Technical Standards Update Now Available

GBBC has released the latest Technical Standards update from its Global Standards Mapping Initiative (GSMI) 7.0, highlighting the continued development of technical standards for blockchain and digital assets across the global ecosystem.

Since GSMI launched in 2020, GBBC has worked alongside its members and broader community to map and advance understanding of the organizations, frameworks, and standards shaping blockchain and distributed ledger technologies. Updated annually, the Technical Standards landscape provides a consolidated view of this evolving global standards environment.

GBBC extends its appreciation to former Technical Standards Working Group Co-Chairs Daniel Conway of the University of Arkansas and Neil Wasserman of The George Washington University for their leadership and contributions to this work, as well as Diana Oreto (Barrero Zalles), GBBC’s Head of GSMI and Research, for overseeing and advancing the initiative.

Most recently, GBBC’s Technical Standards Working Group has continued its engagement with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)’s Technical Committee 307 on Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies (ISO/TC 307), where GBBC serves as a Category A Liaison. GBBC is grateful for the contributions of Michael Darden, Fiona Delaney, and Caroline Thomas in leading this engagement.

GSMI’s Technical Standards landscape tracks and categorizes more than 100 organizations advancing standards for blockchain and digital assets across industries and sectors. This includes 84 standards bodies focused on technical issues, 43 focused on conduct and governance, and 27 focused on regulatory compliance.

The latest update offers a resource for policymakers, industry participants, researchers, and other stakeholders seeking to better understand the organizations and standards helping shape the development of blockchain and digital asset technologies.
