GBBC Responds to Consultation on Future UK Retail Payments Infrastructure
Published

GBBC’s response to the Bank of England’s retail payments consultation focuses on competition, liquidity and practical access to the future infrastructure.
The response recommends:
🔹 Separately priced optional services, with firms free to choose equivalent providers meeting common standards
🔹 Settlement choices based on usable liquidity and participation costs, preserving liquidity-saving arrangements where they meet the required protections.
🔹 Minimum operating terms for sponsored participation, covering service changes, disruption and an orderly move to another sponsor.
These proposals support reliable payments while addressing costs and dependencies that affect firms’ ability to enter the market, invest and develop new services.
